Cancerland Adventures: Colonoscopy Day

Today’s adventures in Cancerland: endoscopy and colonoscopy. The prep was as advertised for the colonoscopy - pretty terrible. It was bad enough to give up fiber for a week (uh, what else do vegans eat?!) but the prep didn’t work very well and it took me seven hours to poop from the time I took my first sip of bowel prep.

That was a long time to wait near the bathroom, thinking it was eminent. The prep feels like being forced to chug glass after glass of sea water until you almost puke. Then repeat. Then wait.

In cancerland, you don’t care what ELSE you have (H.pylori, small bowel crohns, duodenitis, etc) - you only care that it’s not cancer.

Sadly I didn’t make it through this one without biopsies for cancer. One in my stomach that lit up on my last PET scan to rule out metastatic breast cancer.

The other a 4mm polyp, shown in photo #3, a sessile polyp at the appendiceal orifice (opening of my appendix). These are usually precancerous lesions if not overtly malignant, and because of the location, might require appendectomy. Just what I did not want: another cancer, or another surgery.

What a grateful reprieve from cancerland: my recent trip to Alaska. Now back to the ugly reality of procedures, biopsies, and waiting in purgatory.
